This hands-on course is designed for beginners who want to learn the basics of wheel throwing in a focused and supportive setting. Over ten weeks, you’ll get a step-by-step introduction to working with clay on the wheel. Starting with centring and shaping simple cylinders, you will then progress to trimming and adding details such as handles and spouts, as well as exploring both closed and open forms. After a bisque firing, you will glaze your pieces and prepare them for their final firing on the final afternoon. No prior experience is required. The course is held in small groups, allowing for plenty of personal guidance and time to explore your creativity. By the end, you’ll have gained both technical skills and your own unique ceramic creations to take home. Who can join? The course is suitable for beginners and those with some experience who would like to improve their throwing technique. The course is intended for beginners and those with some experience. For some, it will be their first time working with clay on the wheel, while others may have more experience. It can take a long time to learn how to throw clay, and it may be relevant to take the course more than once. We all help to ensure that the workshops are healthy and clean to spend time in, the price of the course is for teaching and materials, and students are expected to take part in cleaning and tidying up on an equal footing with other users.
